What is the difference between a CCFL and LED LCD screen?

We sell both CCFL and LED screens. CCFL and LED refers the type of backlight that is used to light up the screen. Both types of screens use the same LCD technology to produce the picture; only the backlight type is different. The photos below illustrates the physical differences between these two types of displays.

CCFL LCD SCREEN (Cold Cathod Flourescent Lamp)

Below is an example of a CCFL LCD screen which is typically found in older laptops.

Since CCFL LCD screens require more power compared to an LED screen, it has an additional backlight connector power cable on the bottom corner which connects to the inverter (shown at the bottom of the screen). The inverter board is what provides power for the screen's backlight. The video connector on this type of screen is usually on the top right as shown in the photo.

LED LCD Screens (Light Emitting Diode)

An LED screen has only one connection, which is the video cable. This connection is usually located either on the bottom left or bottom right of the screen as shown below. These are now very common among modern laptops.
