Screen cycles through different colors (red/green/blue/white/etc..)

Symptom:

Your screen flashes or alternates between different solid colors every few seconds. Typically red, green, blue, and white. See photo below:

Possible Causes:

  1. Resolution Incompatibility: This can happen if the screen cannot detect the video signal coming from the laptop, normally due to an unsupported resolution. If the resolution of the new screen does not match the resolution of your original screen, then this is likely to happen. Because of this, we always ask customers to purchase a screen with a matching resolution order to prevent this compatibility issue. Many laptop models are available in different resolution screens, so this is a very important specification to match up when buying a new screen.
  2. Connection Issue: This can also happen if the connector is loose or the cable is damaged. The connector has many pins; some of the pins carry the power for the backlight (in the case of LED screens), and some of the pins carry the video signal. If the power pins make contact but the video signal pins are loose, it could cause the screen to display an alternating color cycle..

What you should do:

  1. Check your connection: First step is to make sure that the connection between your video cable and screen is tight and secure. With the laptop OFF (battery and power disconnected), disconnect the video cable and reconnect it and make sure that it is secure. Should the connection feel a little loose, you may apply some tape on the ribbon cable immediately below the connection to keep it in place. Turn on the laptop again to see if this solves the issue.
  2. Contact Us: Should the problem persist, please contact us and tell us the model number of your original screen. We will cross-check this model number with the screen that we sent you in order to be sure that these screens are compatible replacements for each other.
